Air Canada Cargo - Cargo Tracking Pilot

Business issues

  • Indentify potential process improvements at Air Canada Cargo
  • Demonstrate the capability of RFID technology in the cargo environment

Solution

The shipment data was entered manually or sent to the system via XML messaging. Once the pilot system was aware of the pending shipment it created RFID tags for the shipment, interrogated the RFID tags, associated the tags to the ULD/AWB, and transmitted the data back to the hosted pilot portal. Upon arrival at destination the system interrogated the RFID tags as they are unloaded and transmitted the receipt transaction back to the system. All shipment activity was accessible via a web portal.
