NASCAR - Race Compliance

Business issues
- Identify compliant parts for the NASCAR Car of Tomorrow (COT)
- Certify components to be used by the race teams
- Verify compliance at the track during the race event
- Metal and carbon fiber parts which can cause problems for some RFID frequencies
Solution
Low frequency (LF) RFID hardware was selected due to the metal and carbon fiber content of most parts involved with the project. A custom tracking software system was developed to record and track the unique RFID tags. The software was designed to operate on a Dell Axim 51v PDA running the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. Data is syncronized from the field to a centrally location server.
Benefits
- Race officials are able to quickly and easily verify race team compliance at the track by using the handheld application
- Certified wings, which are owned by NASCAR, are issued before a race and collected after the completion of the event using the embedded RFID tags and the handheld application
